How Tallyd uses cookies and local storage — and the trackers we deliberately don't.

01
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and improve your experience.
Tallyd uses cookies and similar technologies (like localStorage) to provide core functionality.
02
Essential Cookies
Authentication Cookies: We use httpOnly cookies to securely store your access token. These are essential for keeping you logged in and cannot be disabled.
Session Cookies: Used to maintain your session state across page navigations. These expire when you close your browser or after the session timeout.
CSRF Protection: Security cookies that protect against cross-site request forgery attacks.
03
Functional Storage
Theme Preference: Your light/dark mode preference is stored in localStorage under the key 'tallyd-theme'. This ensures your preferred theme loads immediately.
Sync Timestamps: We store the last sync timestamp in localStorage to efficiently synchronize your data between devices.
Currency Cache: Exchange rates from the Frankfurter API are cached locally for about an hour to reduce network calls and speed up conversions.
04
What We Don't Use
No Advertising Cookies: Tallyd does not display ads and does not use any advertising tracking cookies.
No Third-Party Tracking: We do not embed third-party tracking pixels, analytics scripts, or social media trackers.
No Cross-Site Tracking: We do not track your activity across other websites.
05
Managing Cookies
Essential cookies (authentication) cannot be disabled without losing access to your account.
You can clear your local data through your browser settings. Note that this will remove your cached data and require a full re-sync.
Most browsers allow you to view and manage cookies in their settings. Refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we introduce new technologies or change how we use existing ones.
Significant changes will be communicated via in-app notification.
